About Harry Vardon

Harry Vardon is without doubt one of the key figures in the history of golf.

His record of six Open victories, completed over the space of thirty years, has never been beaten.

The first British golfer ever to win the US Open, Vardon deservedly became a golfing legend on both sides of the Atlantic.

Vardon is a true hero, not only for his great achievements in the game, but also for the fact that he managed to become a professional golfer at all.  Born in Jersey in 1870, he did not come from a privileged background, largely a prerequisite for success at that time, and was very fortunate to be given firstly the opportunity and secondly the encouragement to develop his natural talent. This talent, combined with technical brilliance and great mental strength, led him to being regarded as one of the major influences of the modern game.
"Dont play too much golf. Two rounds a day is plenty." Harry Vardon
