Harry Vardon International
March 2009

Hi Harry Vardon Fans

A warm welcome to our 2009 Spring Newsletter which announces some amazing news!

The Race to Dubai
As many of you will be aware the whole of the European Tour sports the logo'd outline of the great Harry Vardon.  The PGA European Tour recognised the tremendous value in the provenance and nostalgia attached to the achievements of Harry Vardon together with the other two great golfers of his era namley James Braid and JH Taylor in raising the popularity of the game to the outside world.

It follows that these three players were instrumental in the founding of the PGA in 1901 and the legacy which Harry Vardon left on his death in 1937 was deeply recognised by the PGA in striking what has become to be known as the Harry Vardon Trophy since 1937.

The European Tour in seeking to maintain the integrity and promotion of its truly international reach could find no better partner than Leisurecorp the Dubai entity which amongst other areas is excited about the prospect of establishing Dubai as a leading world golfing destination.  In particular in the US$ 7 Billion investment on the www.jumeirahgolfestates where the World Cup will be held during 19-22 November 2009 at the Greg Norman designed Earth Course.

To obtain a fuller background to this exciting initiative please go to The Race to Dubai section on www.europeantour .

Whereas historically the Harry Vardon Trophy was presented symbolically to the golfer who finished top of the Order of Merit he will now receive a staggering US$ 2 Million out of the US$ 10 Million Bonus Pool.
